Description

Crispy air-fried beef strips tossed in a sweet, spicy, and tangy chilli sauce with peppers, garlic, ginger, and fresh chilli—an easy, lighter twist on the classic takeaway favorite.

Ingredients

Beef & Stir-Fry

  • 250g thin-cut minute steak, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp cornflour
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil, plus a drizzle
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • Thumb-sized piece of ginger, cut into matchsticks
  • 1 red chilli, thinly sliced
  • 1 red pepper, cut into chunks
  • 4 spring onions, sliced (white and green parts separated)
  • 4 tbsp rice wine vinegar or white wine vinegar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp sweet chilli sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato ketchup

Marinade

  • 1/2 tsp Chinese five-spice
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp caster sugar

Instructions

  1. Toss the sliced steak with the marinade ingredients and rest for 10 minutes.
  2. Coat the beef strips in cornflour, drizzle lightly with oil, and place in the air fryer basket.
  3. Air fry at 200°C (390°F) for 8–10 minutes, shaking halfway, until crispy.
  4. Heat oil in a wok or pan, then stir-fry garlic, ginger, and chilli for 1 minute.
  5. Add the red pepper and white spring onion parts; cook for 1–2 minutes.
  6. Stir in vinegar, soy sauce, sweet chilli sauce, and ketchup; let it bubble until slightly thickened.
  7. Add the crispy beef and toss well to coat.
  8. Finish with the green spring onions and serve hot.

Notes

  • Don’t overcrowd the air fryer—crispiness depends on airflow.
  • Add more chilli for extra heat.
  • Slice the beef very thinly for fast, even cooking.
  • Re-crisp leftovers in the air fryer for 3–4 minutes.
