Description
This homemade apple crisp is the perfect blend of sweet, tart, and spiced flavors with a crunchy oat topping. It’s easy to make, requires no pie crust, and tastes amazing served warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
Ingredients
Filling:
- 6 cups apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or mixed), peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
Topping:
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, toss apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour until coated. Transfer to baking dish.
- In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add cold butter and cut in with a pastry cutter or fingers until crumbly.
- Sprinkle topping evenly over apple mixture.
- Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until topping is golden and apples are tender.
- Cool for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for balanced flavor.
- Keep butter cold for a crispier topping.
- Add 1 tbsp cornstarch to the filling if your apples are extra juicy.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for the ultimate treat.
