Description

This homemade apple crisp is the perfect blend of sweet, tart, and spiced flavors with a crunchy oat topping. It’s easy to make, requires no pie crust, and tastes amazing served warm with ice cream or whipped cream.

Ingredients

Filling:

  • 6 cups apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or mixed), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour

Topping:

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • Optional: 1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, toss apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and flour until coated. Transfer to baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, mix oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Add cold butter and cut in with a pastry cutter or fingers until crumbly.
  4. Sprinkle topping evenly over apple mixture.
  5. Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until topping is golden and apples are tender.
  6. Cool for 10 minutes before serving.

  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for balanced flavor.
  • Keep butter cold for a crispier topping.
