Ingredients
For the Waffle Donuts
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon table salt
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 large egg
- ⅓ cup milk
- ½ tablespoon oil
- 1 ½ cups shredded apples
For the Glaze
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 3–4 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- Cinnamon sugar (for sprinkling)
Instructions
- Preheat your waffle maker to medium heat.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, baking powder, salt, and cornstarch.
- Add the egg, milk, and oil. Mix until just combined—do not overmix.
- Fold in the shredded apples until evenly distributed.
- Lightly grease the waffle iron. Spoon in batter and cook until golden and crisp around the edges.
- In a small bowl, whisk powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla to form a smooth glaze.
- Dip warm waffle donuts into the glaze or drizzle it over top.
- Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and serve immediately.
Notes
- Use crisp apples like Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Pink Lady for the best texture.
- Don’t squeeze out the apple juice—it’s what keeps the donuts moist.
- For extra crisp edges, cook 1–2 minutes longer.
- Glaze while warm so it melts beautifully into the waffle pockets.
