Description
A delicious homemade version of Applebee’s famous chicken wonton tacos, featuring crispy baked shells, savory hoisin chicken, and a tangy sesame slaw.
Ingredients
For the Chicken:
- 2 chicken breasts, finely diced
- 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp minced fresh ginger
For the Slaw:
- 1 bag (397g) coleslaw mix
- 4 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp honey
For the Shells and Toppings:
- 16 wonton wrappers
- Cooking spray or olive/canola oil
- Sweet chili sauce, to serve
- Chopped cilantro, to serve
- Sesame seeds, to serve
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly brush wonton wrappers with oil and drape over a baking dish or muffin tin to form taco shells. Bake 6–8 minutes until crisp.
- Heat sesame oil in a skillet. Add garlic and ginger, then chicken. Cook until browned, then stir in hoisin and soy sauce. Simmer until coated.
- Toss slaw mix with green onions, sesame oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and honey. Let sit 10 minutes.
- Fill baked wonton shells with chicken, top with slaw, drizzle with sweet chili sauce, and garnish with cilantro and sesame seeds.
Notes
- Assemble tacos just before serving to keep shells crispy.
- Use chicken thighs for extra juiciness.
- Add a squeeze of lime for a fresh finish.
