Description

A rich, custardy breakfast dish made with soft French bread, cinnamon, vanilla, and a creamy egg mixture. This easy baked version of French toast is perfect for lazy mornings or special occasions.

Ingredients

  • 2 Tbsp butter, melted
  • 7 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3 Tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 loaves (24 oz) soft French bread, cut into 3/4-inch slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with melted butter.
  2. Arrange sliced French bread in the baking dish, slightly overlapping.
  3. Whisk together eggs, cinnamon, milk, heavy cream, sugar, and vanilla in a bowl. Pour mixture over bread, pressing slices down to soak up the custard.
  4. Bake for 35-40 minutes, until the top is golden and crispy. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Make it ahead: Prepare the night before and refrigerate overnight.
  • Top with maple syrup, fresh fruit, or powdered sugar for extra flavor.
  • For a crispier topping, drizzle a little melted butter over the bread before baking.
