Description

Indulge in tender, buttery steak bites seared to perfection with savory mushrooms and garlic. This quick 20-minute recipe delivers steakhouse flavor at home

Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) sirloin or ribeye steak, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tbsp olive oil, divided
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 cups cremini or baby bella mushrooms, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Optional: pinch of crushed red pepper flakes for heat

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steak:
Pat steak pieces dry with a paper towel to remove excess moisture. Season generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Sear the Steak Bites:
Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the steak bites in a single layer (do not overcrowd). Sear for 2 minutes per side until golden brown. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook the Mushrooms:
In the same pan, add the remaining olive oil and sliced mushrooms. Cook for 4–5 minutes until browned and tender.
  4. Add Garlic and Butter:
Reduce heat to medium. Stir in butter and minced garlic, letting the butter melt and sizzle for 30 seconds to release aroma.
  5. Combine and Coat:
Return steak bites to the pan. Add soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce (if using) and toss everything to coat in the buttery sauce.
  6. Serve:
Sprinkle with chopped parsley, and serve immediately with mashed potatoes, rice, or your favorite side.

Notes

  • Perfect Sear: Make sure your skillet is hot before adding the steak for a deep, caramelized crust.
  • Don’t Overcrowd: Cook steak in batches if needed; overcrowding causes steaming instead of searing.
  • Room Temperature Meat: Let steak rest at room temperature for 15 minutes before cooking — it ensures even cooking.
  • Add Wine: Deglaze the pan with a splash of white wine or beef broth for extra flavor.
  • Meal Prep Tip: You can pre-chop and season the steak ahead of time, refrigerate, and cook just before serving.
