Description
Warm candied yams baked in brown sugar, maple syrup, and cinnamon create the perfect cozy side dish. Toasted pecans add crunch and depth for a holiday-ready favorite.
Ingredients
- 2 medium yams (about 1 lb), peeled and cut into 1/2-inch rounds
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
- 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 0.125 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 0.125 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/3 cup pecan halves
- 0.5 teaspoon vegetable oil
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F and lightly grease a baking dish.
- Arrange yam slices evenly in the dish without heavy overlapping.
- Melt butter over medium-low heat. Stir in brown sugar, maple syrup, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth and glossy.
- Pour glaze evenly over yams, ensuring full coverage.
- Cover tightly with foil and bake 25–30 minutes until fork-tender.
- Toast pecans in a skillet with vegetable oil over medium heat for 3–5 minutes until fragrant.
- Remove foil, sprinkle toasted pecans over yams, and bake uncovered 5–7 additional minutes to slightly caramelize.
- Rest 5 minutes before serving, spooning glaze over top.
Notes
- Cut yam slices evenly to ensure uniform cooking.
- If the glaze thickens too much while baking, add 1 tablespoon warm water and stir gently.
- Toast pecans just until fragrant; they continue to darken after removal from heat.
- For extra caramelization, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end while watching closely.
