Description
This creamy, cheesy broccoli and cauliflower bake is the perfect comfort dish for family dinners or holiday feasts. Easy, flavorful, and packed with veggies!
Ingredients
- 3 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
- 3 cups cauliflower florets (fresh or frozen)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (or gluten-free alternative)
- 2 cups milk (or cream for extra richness)
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- Salt & pepper, to taste
- ½ cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Steam or blanch broccoli and cauliflower for 5 minutes until just tender. Drain and set aside.
- Make the cheese sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk until thickened. Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in cheddar and Parmesan until melted.
- Assemble the bake: Place broccoli and cauliflower in a greased baking dish. Pour cheese sauce evenly over vegetables. Top with breadcrumbs if desired.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until bubbly and golden brown. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Shred cheese from a block for the best melting consistency.
- Don’t overcook the vegetables when steaming—they’ll finish cooking in the oven.
- Add cooked chicken, bacon, or ham for extra protein.
- Swap cheddar for Gruyère or mozzarella for a flavor twist.
- For a crunchier topping, use crushed Ritz crackers or panko instead of breadcrumbs.
