Description

This creamy, cheesy broccoli and cauliflower bake is the perfect comfort dish for family dinners or holiday feasts. Easy, flavorful, and packed with veggies!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 3 cups cauliflower florets (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour (or gluten-free alternative)
  • 2 cups milk (or cream for extra richness)
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs (optional, for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Steam or blanch broccoli and cauliflower for 5 minutes until just tender. Drain and set aside.
  3. Make the cheese sauce: Melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour and cook for 1–2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk until thickened. Add garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir in cheddar and Parmesan until melted.
  4. Assemble the bake: Place broccoli and cauliflower in a greased baking dish. Pour cheese sauce evenly over vegetables. Top with breadcrumbs if desired.
  5. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until bubbly and golden brown. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Shred cheese from a block for the best melting consistency.
  • Don’t overcook the vegetables when steaming—they’ll finish cooking in the oven.
  • Add cooked chicken, bacon, or ham for extra protein.
  • Swap cheddar for Gruyère or mozzarella for a flavor twist.
  • For a crunchier topping, use crushed Ritz crackers or panko instead of breadcrumbs.
