Description

A hearty slow cooker cabbage roll casserole made with ground meat, rice, cabbage, and tomato sauce for an easy, comforting one-pot meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 large head cabbage, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef or turkey in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked; drain excess fat.
  2. Lightly grease the crockpot insert.
  3. Layer half of the chopped cabbage in the bottom of the crockpot.
  4. Sprinkle half of the uncooked rice evenly over the cabbage.
  5. Add half of the cooked meat, onion, and garlic.
  6. Pour half of the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce over the layers.
  7. Season with half of the Worcestershire sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  8. Repeat the layers with remaining ingredients.
  9. Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until cabbage is tender and rice is cooked.
  10. If using cheese, sprinkle on top during the last 15–20 minutes of cooking.

Notes

  • Chop cabbage into evenly sized pieces for consistent cooking.
  • Brown the meat first to enhance flavor and reduce excess grease.
  • For a softer texture, cook on LOW rather than HIGH.
  • Add a splash of broth if the mixture looks dry during cooking.
