Description
A hearty slow cooker cabbage roll casserole made with ground meat, rice, cabbage, and tomato sauce for an easy, comforting one-pot meal.
Ingredients
- 1 large head cabbage, chopped
- 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
- 1 cup uncooked white rice
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- Salt, to taste
- Black pepper, to taste
- 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef or turkey in a skillet over medium heat until fully cooked; drain excess fat.
- Lightly grease the crockpot insert.
- Layer half of the chopped cabbage in the bottom of the crockpot.
- Sprinkle half of the uncooked rice evenly over the cabbage.
- Add half of the cooked meat, onion, and garlic.
- Pour half of the crushed tomatoes and tomato sauce over the layers.
- Season with half of the Worcestershire sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
- Repeat the layers with remaining ingredients.
- Cover and cook on LOW for 6–7 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours, until cabbage is tender and rice is cooked.
- If using cheese, sprinkle on top during the last 15–20 minutes of cooking.
Notes
- Chop cabbage into evenly sized pieces for consistent cooking.
- Brown the meat first to enhance flavor and reduce excess grease.
- For a softer texture, cook on LOW rather than HIGH.
- Add a splash of broth if the mixture looks dry during cooking.
