Ingredients
For the brownies:
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup (200g) sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ cup (65g) all-purpose flour
- ½ cup (50g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- ¼ tsp salt
For the topping:
- 1 ½ cups (250g) white chocolate or vanilla candy melts
- Green food coloring
- Red candy hearts (or red M&M’s)
- Optional: festive sprinkles
Instructions
Step 1 – Bake the brownie base
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
In a large bowl, whisk melted butter and sugar until combined.
Add eggs and vanilla, mixing until smooth.
Stir in flour, cocoa powder, and salt until the batter is thick and glossy.
Pour into prepared pan and spread evenly.
Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs.
Let brownies cool completely before decorating.
Step 2 – Make the topping
Melt white chocolate or candy melts in the microwave, stirring until smooth.
Add green food coloring until you reach your desired “Grinch green.”
Step 3 – Decorate
Spread the green topping evenly over cooled brownies.
Place a red candy heart on each square.
Add sprinkles if desired.
Allow topping to set before slicing.
Notes
- For clean slices, chill brownies before cutting and wipe your knife between cuts.
- Don’t overbake—the brownies should be fudgy, not dry.
- If you’re short on time, use a boxed brownie mix and just add the Grinch-themed topping.
- Store brownies in an airtight container to keep them fresh longer.
