Description

These crispy Jalapeño Popper Wontons are stuffed with cream cheese, cheddar, and spicy jalapeños, then fried, baked, or air-fried to golden perfection. The ultimate party appetizer!

Ingredients

  • 2024 wonton wrappers
  • 3 fresh jalapeños, seeded and finely diced
  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 large egg, beaten (for sealing wontons)
  • Oil for frying (if frying method is used)

Optional Garnishes & Dips:

  • Sour cream
  • Ranch dressing
  • Salsa or guacamole

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix cream cheese, cheddar cheese, diced jalapeños, garlic powder, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  2. Place a wonton wrapper on a clean surface. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of filling into the center.
  3. Brush edges with beaten egg, then fold into a triangle or pinch all corners together to form a pouch. Press edges to seal. Repeat with remaining wrappers.
  4. Choose your cooking method:
  • Frying: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry wontons in small batches for 2–3 minutes until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
  • Baking: Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Place wontons on a lined baking sheet, brush lightly with oil, and bake 10–12 minutes until crispy.
  • Air Frying: Preheat air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Spray wontons with oil and cook for 8–10 minutes, shaking halfway through.

Serve hot with dipping sauces of choice.

Notes

  • Keep wonton wrappers covered with a damp towel while assembling to prevent drying.
  • For extra flavor, add cooked bacon bits or pepper jack cheese to the filling.
  • Adjust spice by adding more or fewer jalapeños (or use pickled jalapeños for a milder taste).
  • Make ahead by freezing uncooked wontons; cook directly from frozen when ready.
  • Avoid overfilling wontons to prevent them from bursting during cooking.
