Description
Classic Kentucky Sawdust Pie made with pecans, coconut, and graham cracker crumbs. A chewy, crunchy Southern dessert perfect with ice cream or whipped cream.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 6 egg whites, beaten until frothy
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
Optional toppings: whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, caramel drizzle, sliced bananas
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Place unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish.
- In a large bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, sugar, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans. Mix well.
- Stir in beaten egg whites and vanilla until fully incorporated.
- Pour filling into pie crust and spread evenly.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, until golden brown on top and set in the center.
- Let cool for 15 minutes before slicing.
- Serve plain or with ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel drizzle.
Notes
- Don’t overbake—the pie should be chewy inside with a crisp top.
- Use fresh pecans for the best flavor.
- Serve warm for extra gooey texture, or chill for a firmer slice.
- Try adding sliced bananas on top for a traditional Kentucky twist.
