Description

Classic Kentucky Sawdust Pie made with pecans, coconut, and graham cracker crumbs. A chewy, crunchy Southern dessert perfect with ice cream or whipped cream.

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup sweetened shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 6 egg whites, beaten until frothy
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust

Optional toppings: whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, caramel drizzle, sliced bananas

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Place unbaked pie crust into a 9-inch pie dish.
  3. In a large bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, sugar, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans. Mix well.
  4. Stir in beaten egg whites and vanilla until fully incorporated.
  5. Pour filling into pie crust and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until golden brown on top and set in the center.
  7. Let cool for 15 minutes before slicing.
  8. Serve plain or with ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel drizzle.

Notes

  • Don’t overbake—the pie should be chewy inside with a crisp top.
  • Use fresh pecans for the best flavor.
  • Serve warm for extra gooey texture, or chill for a firmer slice.
  • Try adding sliced bananas on top for a traditional Kentucky twist.
  • This pie tastes even better the next day as the flavors deepen.
