Wake up to perfectly creamy, chewy Overnight Steel Cut Oats with almost zero effort. This easy make-ahead breakfast is hearty, customizable, and perfect for meal prep.
Ingredients
- 1 cup steel cut oats
- 3 cups water
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 cup milk of choice (whole, almond, soy, etc.)
- Toppings of choice, such as:
- Fresh berries
- Fresh berries
- Maple syrup or honey
- Cinnamon
- Nut butter
- Chia or flaxseed
- Toasted nuts
Instructions
- Bring 3 cups of water to a boil in a medium saucepan.
- Add the steel cut oats and kosher salt, then reduce the heat.
- Simmer for 1 minute, just to begin softening the oats.
- Turn off the heat and cover the pot securely with a lid. Leave at room temperature overnight (or at least 8 hours).
- In the morning, stir in 1 cup of milk of your choice.
- Warm over medium heat for a few minutes, or enjoy chilled straight from the fridge.
- Add your favorite toppings and serve!
Notes
- Use kosher salt for the cleanest flavor—sea salt works too.
- Don’t skip the brief simmer. It jump-starts softening for the perfect texture.
