Description
A warm, comforting slow cooker meal made with a whole chicken, rich broth, and tender Amish-style egg noodles. Simple ingredients come together to create a hearty, traditional dish perfect for family dinners.
Ingredients
- 4–5 lb whole chicken
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4–6 tbsp chicken base
- 12 oz Amish-style thin egg noodles
- 4 tbsp butter (optional, for richness)
Instructions
- Season the whole chicken generously with salt and pepper.
- Place chicken in the slow cooker and add enough water to nearly cover it.
- Stir in the chicken base so it dissolves into the water.
- Cook on Low for 7–8 hours or High for 4–5 hours, until chicken falls apart easily.
- Remove chicken, let cool slightly, then discard skin and bones. Shred the meat.
- Return shredded chicken to the slow cooker.
- Stir in the Amish egg noodles, ensuring they are covered with broth. Add more water if needed.
- Add butter for extra richness, if desired.
- Cook on High for 30–45 minutes, stirring once or twice, until noodles are tender and broth thickens.
- Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.
Notes
- Add more broth or water if you prefer a soupier consistency.
- Stir gently to keep noodles from breaking.
- For deeper flavor, add sliced onions, carrots, or celery while the chicken cooks.
- Butter gives the final dish a smooth, silky texture.
