Description

A warm, comforting slow cooker meal made with a whole chicken, rich broth, and tender Amish-style egg noodles. Simple ingredients come together to create a hearty, traditional dish perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

  • 45 lb whole chicken
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 46 tbsp chicken base
  • 12 oz Amish-style thin egg noodles
  • 4 tbsp butter (optional, for richness)

Instructions

  1. Season the whole chicken generously with salt and pepper.
  2. Place chicken in the slow cooker and add enough water to nearly cover it.
  3. Stir in the chicken base so it dissolves into the water.
  4. Cook on Low for 7–8 hours or High for 4–5 hours, until chicken falls apart easily.
  5. Remove chicken, let cool slightly, then discard skin and bones. Shred the meat.
  6. Return shredded chicken to the slow cooker.
  7. Stir in the Amish egg noodles, ensuring they are covered with broth. Add more water if needed.
  8. Add butter for extra richness, if desired.
  9. Cook on High for 30–45 minutes, stirring once or twice, until noodles are tender and broth thickens.
  10. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.

Notes

  • Add more broth or water if you prefer a soupier consistency.
  • Stir gently to keep noodles from breaking.
  • For deeper flavor, add sliced onions, carrots, or celery while the chicken cooks.
  • Butter gives the final dish a smooth, silky texture.
