Description

Juicy steak, gooey melted cheese, and crispy garlic toast come together in this irresistible Steak and Cheese Garlic Toast recipe. Perfect for weeknight dinners, game day, or entertaining!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb steak (ribeye, sirloin, or flank), thinly sliced
  • 1 loaf garlic bread (store-bought frozen or homemade)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 bell pepper (optional), sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 ½ cups shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter (if making garlic toast from scratch)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley or Italian seasoning, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare garlic toast – Bake garlic bread according to package directions, or make your own by spreading butter mixed with garlic on bread slices and toasting until golden.
  2. Cook steak – Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Season steak with salt and pepper, then sear for 2–3 minutes per side until cooked to your liking. Remove and set aside.
  3. Sauté veggies – In the same skillet, cook onion (and bell pepper, if using) until soft and caramelized.
  4. Assemble toast – Place garlic bread slices on a baking sheet. Layer with steak, sautéed veggies, and shredded cheese.
  5. Broil – Place under the broiler for 2–3 minutes, until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Serve – Garnish with parsley or Italian seasoning and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For maximum flavor, slice steak thinly against the grain.
  • Use provolone for a classic melt, or swap in cheddar, Swiss, or pepper jack for variety.
  • Add mushrooms or jalapeños for extra flavor.
  • Don’t skip the broiler—it gives the cheese that irresistible bubbly finish.
  • Great way to use up leftover steak from another meal.
