Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 ½ tsp ube extract (or flavoring)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- A few drops of purple food coloring (optional, for vibrant color)
- ½ cup powdered sugar (for coating)
Instructions
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in ube extract, vanilla, and optional food coloring.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until fully combined into a smooth dough.
- Cover and refrigerate the dough for at least 2 hours (or overnight).
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Scoop dough into small balls, roll them in powdered sugar until fully coated, and place them on the baking sheet.
- Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until the tops are crackled and the centers are soft.
- Cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or store for later.

- Chill the dough—this step is essential for perfect crinkles.
- Don’t overbake—cookies should be soft in the center.
- For richer flavor, replace part of the butter with ube halaya (purple yam jam).
